Seribu Islands Tourism Potential Urged to Be Maximized

Jakarta Legislative Council (DPRD) Commission A Member Nuchbatillah urged the Jakarta government to pay more attention to the development of the Seribu Islands by providing better public service facilities.

The gap shouldn't be this wide

He pointed out that the region's budget allocation is still much lower than that of other administrative cities.

According to him, the Seribu Islands received only about Rp 216 billion, far behind other administrative areas whose budgets range from Rp 900 billion to Rp 1.4 trillion.

"The gap shouldn't be this wide. Seribu Seribu is still a part of Jakarta, and its people are Jakarta residents who have the right to get maximum service," he expressed, Tuesday (11/3).

He stated that the Seribu Islands possesses significant potential for tourism development, which could attract visitors and drive regional economic growth.

Indeed, the archipelago within Jakarta offers distinct advantages that have drawn interest from Singapore.

Even, the tourism potential of the Seribu Islands rivals that of Karimunjawa in Jepara, Central Java. With optimal management, tourism can enhance regional revenue (PAD) via tax and fee collection, generate commercial opportunities, and improve local livelihoods.

Additionally, he urged for enhanced maritime transport accessibility, infrastructure development, and the provision of supporting amenities to ensure the destination is more accessible to tourists.

Beyond tourism, Nuchbatillah highlighted the condition of several public service facilities in need of attention, ranging from sub-district offices and regency representative offices to urban village offices. Enhancing street lighting, road access, and public information media for both locals and tourists is also crucial to supporting comfort and service quality.

"Public service offices must be renovated so services can be maximized. Road facilities, lighting, and information channels also need to be upgraded," he explained.

He expects the discussion of the 2027 City Budget Draft to become a pivotal moment for bolstering financial support allocated to Seribu Islands.

Further, sea transportation enhancement plans must be paired with sustainable growth initiatives to advance tourism potential and deliver direct benefits to locals.

"Through these budget draft deliberations, I hope we can optimize the development of Seribu Islands. Equipped with proper transportation infrastructure, we can lure international tourists as well as investors to tap into its full potential," he concluded.
